Take the Action to Fight Cold and Flu this Season

handwashing awarenessTake the time to get your annual flu vaccine which is currently available here at the Ste. Genevieve County Health Department. Everyone 6 months of age and older should get flu vaccine every year before flu activity begins within their community.

  1. Try to avoid close contact with anyone with symptoms, fever, cough, runny or stuffy nose, sore throat, body aches, chills, fatigue, of the common cold or flu.
  2. Stay home when sick to avoid contact with others.
  3. Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when sneezing or coughing, directly dispose of the tissue in the trash after use.
  4. Avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth.  This is a common way to spread germs.
  5. Proper hand hygiene is the most important way to reduce the spread of infection.  Wash hands with soap and water, if not available, use an alcohol-based hand rub.
  6. If you do get flu symptoms, seek diagnosis and treatment at your primary care physician.  If prescribed antiviral medications, follow your physician’s instructions for taking this medication.
  7. Practice other good health habits. Get plenty of sleep, be physically active, drink plenty of fluids, and eat nutritious food.
