Rotary Club Welcomes Green Tree Plastics Guest

Rotary Cap PresentationThe Ste. Genevieve Rotary welcomed guest speaker Toby Hernandez from Green Tree Plastics at its most recent meeting. Green Tree Plastics out of Evansville, Indi...ana is behind the popular “Caps for Benches” project that the local Rotary has been participating in for the last two years. Hernandez gave an overview his small company which employees only 13-14 people. This small operation, though, recycled 633,000 pounds of caps in 2017 and made them into a variety of products, not just benches. Over 3,000 organizations throughout the US make the trek to Indiana to turn in their caps and purchase benches and picnic tables. What many people don’t know is that the company has available for purchase everything from garden statues like squirrels, deer and turtles to planter boxes, mailbox stands and even lumber—all made from caps. Their propriety cast method of flow molding allows them to make a quality product that will out-last and out-perform similar items made of traditional materials. This impressive company has plans to open operations in Canada and Mexico. Their underlying goal is to impress upon young people, especially, the importance of protecting our environment, and one way is to recycle.
